Ever meet your art soul mate? Ever want to? Mersuka Dopazo and Teresa Calderón make a good case that two simpatico art gals working together are better than a solo act. Can’t you feel the FUN they had creating Bicicleta? It’s big and collaged, using vintage fabrics and hand-made papers, textured and varied surfaces, text, numbers, ribbons… bold color paired with a textured and marked up grounding of white that is anything but boring.
A vibrant fashion-y creation that epitomizes cool girl boho chic, I can imagine these two women having a blast in the studio making collaborations like this. Am I showing my ex-fashion designer bias? Turning what could have been a typical fashion illustration into art where the focus is on the feeling; sunny, happy, vibrant – it’s a MOOD and it makes me want to find my own art soul mate, and convert solitary art making into time spent with a best buddy, gabbing and painting, gossiping and creating. Mersuka and Teresa are Spanish artists who divvy up their studio time between Madrid and Bali, and if that isn’t an art goal to aspire to, I’m not sure what is. #artgoals2023 #collaborativecool
